Wicket Gate

Location: Peoria, Illinois

Customer: United States Army Corp of Engineers

Project Status: Completed

In an effort to replace aging infrastructure, the Army Corps of Engineers worked with Axcess to design and test a new set of Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (FRP) Wicket Gates for the Peoria and LaGrange Wicket Gates. Due to its exceptional corrosion resistance and high strength-to-weight ratio, FRP met the requirement of USACE Engineers that the successful design would need minimal maintenance over its life span without compromising performance. To replace the old wooden structures that had surpassed their design life, FRP gates were manufactured to seamlessly integrate into the existing hardware and structure, ensuring a straightforward replacement process. Axcess also conducted a comprehensive full-scale test in the presence of Corps members, demonstrating the exceptional performance of FRP even under loads that exceeded the design requirements of the wicket gates.
