The Malden Center Station platform repair project continues
to mark a significant shift in transit infrastructure by moving away from
traditional materials. The successful repairs involved constructing a
384-foot-long platform using Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) panels, addressing
installation, longevity, and safety challenges through careful engineering and
design.
Axcess ensured the platform met safety criteria by designing
FRP panels with the right fiber materials and orientation, enhancing structural
integrity. Custom shims were created to match concrete elevations, removing
tripping hazards and seamlessly integrating different materials. This
transformation resulted in a durable and secure platform, showcasing a new
standard for future infrastructure projects that prioritize safety, innovation,
and an improved user experience.
